Let's not forget that it's difficult for chains (especially lower-cost ones) to regularly monitor every property with any regularity... so guests' feedback is especially important for them to identify -- and HOPEFULLY address -- problem properties.

(Disclaimer: No, I don't work for any hotels/chains; I'm just a frequent(ly worn-out) traveler.)

@Charlene:
I hope you changed your mind and either contacted or flagged this post to Super 8's HQ. Their response (or lack thereof) would be VERY interesting -- and help us all decide whether it's the chain itself or just this one sorry property.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33704160.post-57033383246020916662012-09-07T13:01:26.081-05:002012-09-07T13:01:26.081-05:00It is a shame to blacklist a whole chain because o...It is a shame to blacklist a whole chain because of one property, however in my experience, if one property is badly managed, then most of the same brand tend to be. It comes down to lack of interest from the owner of the brand and their franchisees. In the US, I avoid Ramadas like the plague. In the UK, Travelodge. I've had too many bad experiences at both brands to risk staying again.Stewartnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33704160.post-90383150769429094792012-09-05T15:21:21.879-05:002012-09-05T15:21:21.879-05:00You are right. It doesn't have to be expensive to be clean, and expensive doesn't necessarily guarantee you won't find some grime, although it does seem to up the odds.

As for the mirror thing, I don't recall a hotel without a full-length mirror, but absence of one wouldn't sit well with me. I'm a speaker who needs to check all of my apparel. At the very least to make sure my shoes match my outfit, but moreover, to make sure my hemline isn't stuck up in my pantyhose. :)

I'd definitely be leaving feedback on that. I'll be curious to see what others have to say. How much can they save with half a mirror? I'm assuming it's a cost-cutting measure. Or was there something about configuration that made it impossible? Can't imagine what ...

Thanks for the input and the good question.Charlene Ann Baumbichhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09634623648295710676noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33704160.post-24767079895600413382012-09-05T14:58:48.299-05:002012-09-05T14:58:48.299-05:00I definitely agree about cleanliness and care that...I definitely agree about cleanliness and care that's shown. And it doesn't have to be an expensive hotel to get that.

But I have a question. I've recently stayed at a "boutique" hotel and then a chain hotel (Indigo) in a large city (Chicago) that didn't have full-length mirrors in the rooms. It annoyed me mightily, but I have no idea if anyone else cares, or if it's a trend I should watch out for. Anyone know?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
